Building Design Online

Building Design Online is an online school which focuses on educating new students and existing professionals in a range of creative workshops and short courses related to the building design industry.
To launch our business we are running an industry workshop visiting local suppliers. We call this day “walk in the shoes of a designer….”
A bit about us
About a year ago a group design teachers started brain storming all the fun ways that can help students learn.  Bringing a variety of subjects to students online was a start. We know that so many regional areas do not have design classes. And doing a full design course can be very expensive. Often all that is required is to update skills to ensure they are industry current.
We started thinking about the subjects that can be delivered on their own, subjects such as creating concepts, running a business, and the minefield that is sustainable design. This information is poorly covered in design courses and often students benefit from revisiting these subjects during the course of their careers.

Our staff background crosses a number of disciples including architecture, building design, interior design and film production. We realised that we could borrow ideas from all these disciples in order to best approach each subject. No other school has tackled education in this way. It is simple and smart, and makes a lot of sense.
What lies ahead
Future workshops and short courses we are currently working on include:

-          - ArchiCad - Introductory course
-         - AutoCAD - Introductory course
-         - Developing a concept
-         - Lighting Design
-         - Styling
-         - Running a Design Business
-         - Costing your Design projects
-        -  Sustainability in residential projects
-        -  Sustainability in interior design
-         - Manual drafting

Please feel free to send in your comments or suggestions.

Who we are....

Teresa Serrao, I am a registered architect having studied at the University of Technology in Sydney. Following graduation I set up my architecture practice which I worked at for about 20 years.
About seven years ago I got the opportunity to start teaching design, first interior design then building design and 3D Archicad tutorials. Starting this online school was the next logical step as a way of providing specific skills that fill the gaps that vocational education doesn't provide students wanting to enter the workforce.

Amanda Fox, I studied BA Communications majoring in Film and TV at the University of Technology Sydney followed by a Post Grad at the AFTRS in Production Design. Following my studies I worked on short films, TV series and commercials as a production designer, set dresser, and props buyer.
As my career developed I moved into designing children's bed linen for boutique stores. My love of interior design led me to study at Enmore TAFE, graduating with a Diploma in Interior Design and Education.
